Best Way to Reverse Diabetes – Start Today!
In this article I briefly describe what I believe to be the best way to reverse diabetes. This method can work 100% for type 2 diabetes and prediabetes sufferers. You will see through reading this article that this is the best way to reverse diabetes. However, there are exceptions to every rule, and you should check with your doctor to ensure it is safe for you, given your state of health.
A Re-cap from My Story
I’ve mentioned in previous articles that I used to be a type 2 diabetes sufferer. The reversal methods I talk about in this article are heavily influenced by my personal experiences. I followed my doctor’s advice for the first four years after being diagnosed. I got a new pair of glasses that I couldn’t use after a month because my eye doctor didn’t know my vision would change back. My diet changed and I lost 20 pounds in the first five months. I religiously monitored by blood glucose levels, pricking my finger day and night. I swallowed my special combination of metformin, lisinipril, Lipitor and a baby aspirin day in and day out.
Each individual has their own special physical condition that can impact the process of reversing type 2 diabetes. When you are cured by natural means, it probably will take a bit longer on average. Curing yourself of type 2 is the best way to reverse diabetes because it has no side effects.
Before you stop drugs – A Forewarning
Before you quit your medication cold turkey, consider that your blood glucose will spike dangerously. This is the way I discovered the best way to reverse diabetes. I continued on my medication during my reversal process until I noticed a reduced blood glucose level. Your diabetes care-giver should be aware that you will be working hard to reverse your diabetes. Care-givers usually include spouses, children, your minister, or your work-out buddy. The last one is important if they motivate or challenge you to work hard at your exercise regimen. If you don’t have a work-out buddy, consider who will be your “cheer leader” type that keeps you going when you weaken.
Tell those that care that you will soon be cured of your diabetes condition. Set your mind to changing your quality of life for the better. This can be an exciting time for you and your loved ones, but it can mean a lot of discipline and hard work too.
First Key to the Cure – The Don’t Do Foods
The first key is to avoid foods that increase blood sugar rapidly. If you are already a type 2 diabetic, you probably know you should stay away from sugar and high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup is among the worst substances for people with heightened blood sugar like diabetes. Sugar substitutes may be equally dangerous if you use the wrong ones, like those contained in soda drinks. Consuming alcoholic beverages is also a no go, as well as high starch foods like white potatoes, white rice, pasta, and white bread. Reduce your red meat intake to once a week and stay away from whole milk. You can usually get away with eating lean wild game like venison, elk, or antelope twice or three times. Although processed foods can be convenient, they are also on the do not eat list.
Learn how to read the nutrition labels on the foods you buy in the grocery store. Remember that the numbers given are for the serving size listed. You don’t want foods that have high carbohydrate and high sugarar and low fiber and protien numbers. The protien in the food depicted on the right is excellent, but it does have high cholesterol and saturated fat numbers. Also learn to read the ingredients list to determine what went into the food. There is a long list of ingredients that any diabetic should avoid, in a later post I will try to capture them. Some of the most important ingredients diabetics should avoid include high fructose corn syrup, sugar, monosodium Glutamate (MSG), Trans fats, and preservatives.
Second Key to the Cure – The Do Foods
This key is integral to the best way to reverse diabetes. First you have to realize in your mind that you will be changing the way you eat. This is a fairly big step for many, so you may have to open your mind to new ways of thinking about food. Probably the main contributor to diabetes is overweight. If this is you, you should program your mind to understand that “hunger is your friend” and eat only when and as much as you have to. There is a lot of advice on fasting and dieting from medical professionals that say it is crucial in lowering your blood glucose levels. I believe what my grandmother use to tell me “everything in moderation” and when fasting, I say use moderation. You can, but don’t have to fast for lengthy periods to reverse your diabetes.
From now on, look for natural, unprocessed foods for the lions share of your diet. Planning ahead is probably one of the most important skills for eating healthy. Part of this is due to the nature of fresh food to spoil when not eaten, while it is fresh. Almost all green vegetables are beneficial, and most yellow or orange vegetables also. Squash, peppers, cauliflower, tomatoes are also good vegetables. Stick to whole grains when looking for your baked goods and pasta made with whole grains is good in moderation. To replace the proteins from not eating red meats, turkey, beans and fish are among your alternatives. Some grains are high in protein like quinoa, millet, and brown rice; and as a bonus, they also contain a good deal of fiber.
Third and Final Key to the Cure – Physical Exercise
This key is non-negotiable in the best way to reverse diabetes. If you decide to skip this exercise key you will most probably fail in your efforts. Exercise cannot be overrated when it comes to reversing diabetes and you should take it seriously. Although it may be possible to reverse diabetes using just the first two keys, it will be a very difficult and long uphill climb. The exercises you do will depend on your physical capabilities, so check with your doctor to make sure your body is up to it.
You should choose an exercise regimen that will tax your strength and endurance, so that over time your body will have to build up strength. I chose running as my exercise, because I knew that exercise from long ago and felt like it challenged me. Start out slow and build up to a full strenuous workout over one or two weeks. I was running three miles 5 days a week, my poor shoes. Be careful not to incur any injuries, since that will delay your reversal. Get help if you need it from your local YMCA, gym, or personal trainer to be sure you are appropriately taxing your body.
Conclusion – The light at the End of the Tunnel
